(Actual) Rating: 2 of 5 stars
Cover Him With Darkness depicts the life of Milja Petak and the sacrifices she has made to protect the fallen angel that her father warned her about. She has been aware of the fallen angel's presence at an early age. Her father is a religious man and expects her to be as well and guided her away from harm.
As the rest of the story unfolds to readers, it's perfectly clear and predictable enough that Milja would help the fallen angel escape as she has gravitated towards him, a connection and sympathize with him. Those agonizing days for the fallen angel held captive, did she realize that she cares enough for him. To begin with, that was the main story or else it wouldn't have made any sense in the story at all if she didn't have done it. In an instant, it became dull and not enjoyable to read.
The writing is fairly satisfactory that I was able to finish reading the book, though it took such effort to do so. To be honest, I can say that Cover Him With Darkness has a potential. The main characters and plot are my concern. I admit that I would've enjoyed the idea of fallen angel-human relationship but I couldn't figure out this one. All I've known about the fallen angel was basically he has bad temper and the consequences that awaits him. Add to that, I can't help it but his impression on me the entire time is he only intends to deceive Milja. On the other hand, Milja is a character who takes pleasure in every chance she gets. It's pretty complacent and thoughtless of her, in my opinion. She's easily influenced. She couldn't care less who she's getting involved with.
Ultimately, the flat characters made it really mind-numbing plot. They didn't fully engage me as they stay the same throughout. It's a struggle to find the book a pleasant read. My thoughts wander as the book wasn't that interesting at some point. Overall, the book is not a feel-good read for me.
