*Due to graphic nature, 18+ advised*

Laney Harper is a talented pianist who chooses to follow her dreams rather than follow her parents’ wishes of attending law school. Making that decision has sparked a rebellion in her that continues when she heads off to college. While there, she meets and falls for Jake Thomas, local rock star.

Five years later, Laney comes back to her rocker boyfriend, but what’s waiting for her is not what she expected. Finally standing up for herself may be the worst mistake she has ever made, leading to some seriously dangerous consequences.

The horror she endured sends her to therapist James Hardy, a man that can make her forget about her demons while hiding his own.

They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem, but when the problem is buried deep down and the world seems like it’s against you, what do you do?

As Laney struggles to get her life back on track, a chain of events is set off and she realizes she has walked into a beautiful nightmare…

(Actual) Rating: 2.5 of 5 stars

My Beautiful Nightmare deals with the offense of forcing a person and inflicting pain on her as Laney Harper was force to face a reality that she has no control of. All she ever remembered was the argument she had with her boyfriend for the last five years betrayed her and woke up with unconscious mind. Now, Laney has to choose how she will move on a normal life after the incident except it may take her a long while to bring back the lost time taken away from her.

I can accept that the book delivers a certain message. Anything can go wrong in a relationship that has no healthy foundation from the very start. It suggest that end it as soon as you know it's heading towards destructive spiral. Don't be a slave because the truth is that's not how love works. Laney came to realize that her relationship with Jake was completely a huge mistake and was too little too late for that conclusion in the end. She truly wasted herself to Jake and felt helpless fixing herself. However, I'm glad she choose to come to her senses and ask for assistance as she approached her best friend for help. Decided she will move on in life with this burden.

To read this book was unbearable and in my opinion it has sudden starts and stops going on. It's pretty short as I wasn't able to catch the true strength or perseverance through the pages from the protagonist. I don't even know whether I like her as a character. Unbearable in a sense that Laney couldn't cope and I find it hard to read and suffer with her. Even when the author wanted to show that Laney is strong and capable to come back up on her feet, it just wasn't convincing enough. When Dr Hardy appeared to Laney, the approach was fast as if he's just a pick-me-up and he gladly gave himself committed to her. It's kind of weird for me.

My Beautiful Nightmare will appeal to romance lovers who loves a quick read and who enjoys finding uncertain event that will pull you in to go with the flow of the story in its darkest and deepest secrets waiting to be discovered.
