Knotted Roots (Book # 1) by Ruthi Kight
Genre: YA Romance

Partying with friends and scoring a flawless tan is about all Roxie has on her list of things to make her Hampton's summer perfect.

Her parents, however, have other plans and Grandma Betty's farm is just one of them. Just as her life is in shambles and the quaint town is suffocating her, she meets Chase.

Somewhere in the mix of bummer summer and small town doldrums, he becomes the boy she can't seem to avoid falling for. Just adding him to the picture, her stay starts to get better, even if she knows it has to end with the summer holidays. That is until Betty drops a life-shattering bomb.

Roxie must make a choice that will change her life forever. What happens when a spoiled brat from New York learns the true meaning of love, loss, and forgiveness? Can Chase and Roxie find a way to be together or is this just another summer romance?

 Knotted Roots Excerpt/Teaser

I found Chase in the barn’s office, sitting behind Grandma’s desk, staring intently at the computer screen. His hair was coated in sweat and stuck out in varying directions. I stopped and stared at him, taking in his beautiful face. He was completely filthy, and yet I had the sudden urge to run my hands through his hair and then gently caress the strong planes of his face, taking in every inch of his features. I took a small step forward, the movement catching his attention.

Our eyes met, and for a second I actually thought I saw happiness in his eyes, but it was quickly replaced by anger. He immediately turned his attention back to the computer, so I decided to just walk right in. I closed the door behind me and sat down across from him, the desk separating us as much as the anger we both felt.

“I’m not in the mood for your drama today Roxie. Please. Just go home,” his voice shook with restrained anger, and a hint of pain escaped with it.

“I’m not here for drama. We need to talk.”

“So talk. I’ve already said all I’m going to say.”

I drew in a deep breath and exhaled loudly, gathering my courage. “Are you and Jenn dating?” I spat it out as quickly as I could; tearing the top off of the biggest problem we had faced so far.

He didn’t respond immediately, his eyes raked over my face, causing me to fidget under his scrutiny. “What does Jenn have to do with us? That’s the part I still haven’t been able to figure out.”

“Everything. Nothing. I don’t know!” I threw my hands in the air and leaned back in my seat. “Just answer the question.”

“No, we’re just friends. I mean, we dated a few years ago, but it was nothing serious. But I’m not sure how that’s any of your business.”

“When I called you…that first night of my punishment,” I paused and looked away from his penetrating gaze. “She answered the phone. She…she said that you told her I wouldn’t leave you alone. Then she told me I was pathetic.”

I lowered my eyes to the floor, unable to meet his gaze after my confession. Why was it so hard to just tell him what she had said? I felt foolish in that moment. Could she have been lying?

“I don’t know who to be more upset with. Jenn for saying that. Or you for believing I said it.” He stood up and walked to the door of the office. He pulled it open and stood in the doorway, his eyes finding mine once again. “I’ll deal with Jenn. But Roxie…you need to deal with you. I can’t stay on this ride with you. Not like this.”

Hidden Falls (Knotted Roots # 1.5 - Novella) by Ruthi Kight
Publication Date: July 3, 2013
Genre: YA Romance

The southern summer was back with a vengeance. Helping out a friend was what Katy had in mind when she agreed to give Roxie a hand on the farm.

She expected it to be an easy job wrapped in the possibility of a break from her mother’s constant vodka stupor. What she didn’t expect was to find him.

Brian spent his life in his brother’s shadow, constantly falling short of others’ expectations. When he gets the chance to prove himself, he's forced to decide if there’s more to him than just the mistakes he’s made. The summer was supposed to be easy.

It was supposed to be fun. But sometimes, when you least expect fall.

Hidden Falls (novella) Excerpt/Teaser

His arm around me felt like heaven. He was so warm and comforting, his muscles so hard and welcoming. When he opened the door for me, I nearly swooned right there. I thanked him and climbed in, desperately trying to keep my skirt from riding up. The devilish part of me wanted him to try to sneak a peek, but my proper side won out. This wasn’t a date, only a friendly road trip. I had to keep reminding myself of this.

As he climbed in beside me and cranked up the beater, I couldn’t help but watch the muscles move along his arms. He wasn’t as big as Chase, but there was no doubt he was built. I could now understand why all the girls in our class had crushed on him throughout school. I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t noticed before now. Chase had always been the one at the front of my hormone-driven mind.

The rest of the trip was quiet, neither of us doing much talking. I watched the scenery pass out the window, eventually counting the number of palmetto trees that went by. By the 256th one, I gave up. There were obviously way too many trees on this stretch of road. I kept stealing glances, but Brian seemed focused on the road. I pulled my phone out and found two new text messages.

The first one, from Roxie, was just a simple check in. I texted her back, letting her know where I was and who I was with. The second one, from an unknown number, confused me a little bit.

I always knw u were a whore. Proved me right 2night.
